Parliament has passed legislation to move the Labour Day public holiday from May to October, with the Opposition saying the change is another attack on working Queenslanders. The Bill will also restore the Queen's Birthday public holiday to June, which had been changed by the former Bligh Labor government last year. Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie defended the Bill. "They will still celebrate Labour Day - they're just going to celebrate it on a different day of the year," he said. Mr Bleijie told the House yesterday the changes would have several benefits. "Uniformity with the majority of the other states and territories, diminished disruptions to production and services for businesses and industry that result from the concentration of public holidays falling in quick succession in the April-May period," he said.
