 When molecule travels from a higher concentration to a lower concentration through a concentration gradient.It is known as passive transport. eg -- diffusion
and osmosis.
Active transport refers to when molecule travels from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration against the concentration . gradient. eg - Na/K pump .
  Passive - from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration down its concentration gradient.
