Answer :

20 boys and girls sold tickets for a funfair. Each ticket was sold at $5.Each boy sold 5 tickets and each girl sold 3 tickets. The amount collected by the boys was $20 more than the amount collected by the girls. Find

a) how many girls were there in the group
b) how many tickets were sold altogether?

Solution:
           No Of Boys = 20
           Let No Of Girls = x
         No. Of Tickets sold by One Boy  = 5
     Therefore Number of tickets Sold by 20 Boys = 5*20
                                                                       = 100
          Cost of one Ticket = $5
       therefore Cost of 100 Tickets = $5*100
                                                 = $500
       No. Of tickets Sold by One Girl = 3
       Therefore , No of tickets Sold By x Girls = 3*x
                                                                 = 3x
       Therefore Cost of 3x tickets = $5*3x
                                                = $15x
   According to Problem ,
                       $15x = $500 - $20
                        $15x= $480
                             x=$480/$15
                                 x= 32
Hence The Number of Girls is 32 .

 b) therefore total Number of Tickets sold = 100 + 3x
                                                           = 100 + 3*32
                                                           = 100 + 96
                                                           =196
Hope This Helps You!!!
