a hot plate of electric oven connected to a 220 volts line has two resistance coils A and B, each of 24 ohm resistance which may used separately in series or in parallel. what are the current in the three cases

Answer :

1. If only one coil is used :    R = 24 ohms
   So current = potential difference / resistance = 220 / 24 = 9.16 amp
2.  if the two coils are connected in series,
     the effective resistance is  24+24 = 48 Ohm
     current = 220 / 48 = 4.58 amp
3. if the two coils are in parallel,  effective R =  24/2 = 12 ohms
   current = 220/12 = 18.33  amp
