While conducting electrical appliances wires are given dfiferent colours so there is no confusion between wires
Eg
1)Earth wires are given a brown colour
2)Live wires are given a red colour
3)Neutral wires are given a green colour
Eg

To [revent the confusion while connecting them to the gadgets and the sockets....imagine if all 3 wires were black insulated then wouldn't it be tough to identify the neutral from the live? or the other ways...
