Plants like sugar cane, potato etc reproduce asexually.
That means they have nothing to do with the fertilization, ovum and the zygote stuff.
A completely grown sugar cane is cut into big pieces containing nodes.
Then they are planted again in the soil and the leaves grow from the nodes of the plant.
