i ) At present ,
Manjit's age = 12 years
Mala's age = 2 years
ii ) after x years ,
Manjit's age = ( 12 + x )years
Mala's age = ( 2 + x ) years
According to the problem given,
Manjit's age = 3 time s of Mala's age
12 + x = 3 ( 2 + x )
12 + x = 6 + 3x
12 - 6 = 3x - x
6 = 2x
Therefore ,
2x = 6
x = 6/2
x = 3
After 3 years Manjit's age is only
three times as old as Mala's age.
