a tank is filled by one tap in 6 hours and by another tap in 8 hours.find the time required to fill the both tank if both the taps is kept open.

Let the capacity of the tank be V litres
Filling speed of tap 1 = V/6  litres  per hour
Filling speed of tap 2 = V / 8 litres / hour

Filling speed of both together =  V (1/6 + 1/8) = 7 V/24  litres/hr
Time duration needed to fill the tank by both together  =  24/7 hours
