Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a clever fox. One sunny day, while wandering around, the fox stumbled upon a well hidden amidst the bushes. Curious, the fox approached the well to take a closer look. As he peered into the depths of the well, he lost his footing and tumbled in, landing with a splash at the bottom.
Trapped in the well, the fox tried in vain to climb out. Despite his best efforts, the walls of the well were too steep for him to scale. Exhausted and desperate, the fox began to fear that he would never escape.
Just then, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Looking up, he saw a thirsty goat standing at the edge of the well, peering down into the darkness.
"Hello, dear goat," called out the fox. "Could you please help me? I have fallen into this well and cannot get out. But if you drink some water, the level will rise, and I can climb out on your back."
The goat, eager to quench his thirst, did not hesitate. Without a second thought, he leaped into the well and began to drink from the water below.
As the goat drank, the water level rose steadily, and true to his word, the fox climbed onto the goat's back. Using the goat as a makeshift ladder, the fox managed to scramble out of the well and onto solid ground.
But as the fox stood safely outside the well, he realized with a pang of guilt that the goat was still trapped inside. Despite his promises to help, the fox had no intention of returning to rescue the goat. Instead, he simply walked away, leaving the poor goat to perish in the depths of the well.
The moral of the story: Beware of those who offer help only to serve their own interests. Sometimes, kindness can be deceptive, and it is important to look out for oneself while also being mindful of the intentions of others.
