let the age of the youngest one be x,then,
x+x+3+x+6+x+9+x+12=50 (given,their age difference is 3 years each)
=>5x+30=50
=>5x=20,hence x=4

Added together this gives:
5x + 30
Total of ages = 50
5x + 30 = 50
