Mohit and Ram had a total of 20 pens.Sam had 7 pens more than ram and 2 less than Mohit.
Then how many pens did Ram have?

let x,y and z represent no. of pens with mohit,ram and sam respectively
so
x+y=20
z-y=7..(1)
x-z=2...(2)
therefore add (1) and (2)
x-y=9
x+y=20
-----------------
2x=29
x=29/2
y=11/2
 there can't be 11/2 pens please check ur question
