The kidneys are the main excretory organ involved
in urine formation. Urine contains metabolic waste products, such as ammonia,
urea, and water. It is made via ultrafiltration of the blood through
specialised structures within the kidney, called nephrons. The urine is
transported through the ureters to the bladder, where it is stored. The bladder
then releases urine via the urethra.
