• Activity 1.1 Aim: To test the given food sample for starch. Theory Our food contains various nutrients. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are the three major nutrients present in food. Vitamins, minerals, fibres and water are also present in food. Carbohydrates present in the food are in the form of starch. Starch is a white powder that reacts with iodine solution to give a blue-black coloration. Materials Required: Raw potato, a petri dish, a knife, dilute iodine solution, a dropper Procedure: 1. Take a raw potato and cut it into half with the help of a knife. 2. Take one half of the cut potato in a petri dish with its cut surface facing upwards. 3.
